Spiced Apple Cider

Fall is finally here and with that comes posts inspired by some of my favorite fall dishes and beverages. Today's fix is about hot spiced apple cider. I've never made apple cider before today and I must say it's simple to make and absolutely delicious to drink. All the ingredients noticeably contributed to the resulting overall flavor and the simplicity of the recipe earned its way into my collection. Definitely a keeper and drinker. If you're feeling grownup and want to take it to the next level add a shot of spiced rum.


8 cups pressed Apple Juice/Cider (not from concentrate)
1 orange, cut into 1/4″ slices
3 cinnamon sticks
1/2 teaspoon ground allspice
1 tablespoon cloves
1 inch piece of ginger cut into coin sized slices
1/4 cup brown sugar


1. Place all the ingredients into a large pot and bring to boil for 5 minutes
2. Reduce heat and simmer for 30 minutes. Strain cider before serving. Enjoy!

**Optional: for a spiked version, add a shot of spiced rum to each glass
